Focus K9 is trusted with dogs that require more than basic pet care. Our services are designed for dogs that benefit from experienced handling, clear structure, and professional decision-making — including high-drive breeds, large breeds, and behaviourally complex dogs. We specialize in supporting dogs that are overly friendly, under-socialized, or struggle with engagement and neutrality.
Focus K9 services are delivered by a small, certified team operating under the direction of certified professional dog trainer Sydney Lemiski. All team members follow Focus K9 handling standards, safety protocols, and operational policies. Select services may be completed by trained independent contractors, with all booking, oversight, and accountability managed through Focus K9.
Focus K9 provides professional dog training, structured training outings, dog walking, and pet sitting. All services are delivered by certified professionals operating under Focus K9 handling standards and safety protocols.
Focus K9 provides in-person services in Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Saanich, Victoria, and Esquimalt. Services outside of these areas may be subject to a travel fee.
A consultation is required for select services to assess suitability, safety, and handling requirements. This is typically required for dogs demonstrating challenging or complex behavioural concerns, or for clients seeking one-off training sessions. Consultations ensure services are appropriate for the dog and aligned with Focus K9 standards.
No. While Focus K9 has a proven track record of producing meaningful results, behavioural outcomes are influenced by factors beyond the trainer’s control, including genetics, environment, consistency, and follow-through. Services are delivered to a high professional standard, but specific results cannot be guaranteed.
All Focus K9 services follow established handling standards focused on safety, structure, and appropriate decision-making. Methods and service selection are tailored to the individual dog, taking into account behaviour, temperament, environment, and risk.
Focus K9 services are delivered by certified professionals with experience in dog training, handling, and in-home care. Care is provided by a certified pet sitter, and training is delivered by a certified dog trainer. All team members operate under established handling standards and safety protocols to ensure consistency across services.
Experience includes structured obedience training, behaviour-focused work, real-world handling, socialization, and care for dogs with varying temperaments and needs. This also includes experience operating a large dog facility, leading structured pack walks of four to eight dogs, and completing mentorships with experienced trainers.

Focus K9 specializes in working with reactive, anxious, and otherwise behaviourally challenging dogs, as well as dogs that are overly friendly, under-socialized, or difficult to manage in everyday environments. We also work with neutral, well-balanced dogs from ages 10 weeks and up, seeking professional-level obedience, reliability, and continued skill development. For dogs suited to it, we enjoy tapping into play drive and prey drive to support engagement, motivation, and sport-focused or advanced obedience work.
Our team has experience handling dogs across a wide range of sizes, breeds, and temperaments. This includes large and powerful breeds such as Cane Corsos, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Akitas, Great Danes, Rottweilers, XL bully–type breeds, and German, Belgian, and Dutch Shepherds, as well as smaller breeds including terriers, Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas, and Poodles. We also regularly work with common family breeds such as Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Labradors, and Golden Retrievers.
Focus K9 has experience working with international rescues, including dogs from Mexico and other regions, such as Jindo mixes, Korean Mountain Dogs, and mixed-breed rescues with unknown histories. Our head trainer and operator has personally handled and worked with over a thousand dogs across training, outings, group settings and boarding.
Whether a dog struggles with fear and avoidance, heightened reactivity, excessive social behaviour, or is already stable and looking to advance, our goal remains the same: to provide appropriate handling, structure, and guidance that helps keep dogs safely and successfully in their homes with confident, informed owners.
Focus K9 operates with a professional, organized, and thoughtful approach to dog training and care. Our services are planned, structured, and delivered by certified and insured professionals who prioritize consistency, safety, and clear communication.
We are proud to have been recognized with Gold awards in both 2024 and 2025, and we frequently work with clients who come to us after unsuccessful experiences elsewhere. Many owners describe our approach as approachable and personable, while still maintaining an elevated service standard that reduces stress and builds confidence for both dog and owner.
Focus K9 is known for working calmly and confidently with difficult, complex, or higher-risk dogs that other providers may decline. At the same time, we support well-balanced dogs looking to advance their training through thoughtful, goal-driven work.
We also offer some of the most flexible and accessible private training options on Vancouver Island, at a time when many companies no longer offer true private training. This allows owners to receive individualized support without sacrificing quality, structure, or affordability.
Our goal is simple: to deliver a higher standard of service that keeps dogs successful in their homes and owners supported throughout the process and in the future.
